Patrick De Boever

Director of Research, Innovation & Valorization Antwerp University Hospital (UZA)

Patrick De Boever is an experienced R&D leader with over 25 years in health research. He is currently the Director of Research, Innovation & Valorization at Antwerp University Hospital (UZA), where he supports the talented UZA team in pushing the boundaries of research, advancing healthcare delivery, and driving impactful valorization initiatives.
Previously, Patrick held roles as a senior innovation manager at Perseus & ABS-int and business developer at Hasselt University, where he continues to serve as an associate professor. From 2020 to 2022, he was a research and innovation manager at the University of Antwerp, playing a key role in establishing the Centre of Excellence Microbial Systems Technology. Prior to that, he spent over a decade at VITO, where he led research in environment & health, ultimately transforming their work into a digital health spin-off company. His career began at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre, where he conducted research from 2001 to 2007.
Patrick holds a Ph.D. in Applied Biological Sciences and a Master of Science in Bio-Engineering from Ghent University. He has a strong track record of integrating physiological, clinical, and digital data to develop innovative health research and solutions. Notably, he played a pivotal role in launching Mona.Health that markets an AI-based software as a medical device for early detection of chronic eye diseases.
With a deep commitment to healthcare innovation and sustainability, Patrick has successfully built strategic partnerships, secured funding, and led interdisciplinary teams. His contributions to research are reflected in 140+ scientific publications, underscoring his impact in the fields of environment and health sciences.
