CEO & Co-Founder TripleW
Tal Shapira is the Co-Founder and CEO of TripleW, an Israeli company specialising in converting food waste into lactic acid, a key component in biodegradable plastics. Founded in 2016, TripleW employs 26 people across its R&D center in Israel and an industrial demonstration facility in Belgium.
Before establishing TripleW, Shapira worked as a journalist for Yedioth Aharonot and later as a researcher at the Weizmann Institute of Science and a lecturer at the Davidson Institute of Science Education.
Under Shapira's leadership, TripleW has developed a patented process that transforms food waste into lactic acid, offering a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional methods. This innovation has positioned TripleW as a leader in the circular economy, contributing to sustainable practices in the bioplastics industry.
In 2023, TripleW raised $16.5 million in a Series B funding round to scale its operations and expand its impact on the bioplastics market.
Shapira's commitment to sustainability and innovation continues to drive TripleW's mission to reduce food waste and promote the use of renewable materials in various industries.
