Annemie Rombouts
I have been active in financial supervision for more than 25 years and am Deputy Chair of the Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA - www.fsma.be) and member of its Management Committee since 2014.
My current operational responsibilities cover on the one hand the supervision of financial markets, listed companies and issuers. The FSMA sees to it that companies that raise financing on the financial markets in Belgium provide correct and complete information, both at their initial public offering (IPO) and throughout their life as a listed company. As such it aims at fair and orderly operation and transparency of these markets. On the other hand, I lead the teams in charge of the supervision of asset management companies, portfolio management and investment advice companies, collective investment schemes and marketing for bank, savings and investment products. As such, my areas of competence concern different elements of the investment value chain. I have a good view on non-bank financial intermediation, on the financial product range and on retail investor preferences in Belgium.
Since 2025 I have chaired the Issuers Standing Committee (ISC) of the European Securities and Markets Authority. The scope of the ISC includes contributing to and/or monitoring of regulatory developments as well as ensuring appropriate supervisory convergence.
Over the course of my career, I have been active in the cabinet of Belgian finance ministers where I have, amongst others, driven the transposition of financial regulations.
I am particularly aware of challenges for regulatory agencies and the importance for public institutions creating tangible added value. That is why it is key for me to keep a finger on the pulse of entrepreneurs, and to see how the FSMA can be of assistance in their search for the journey that best matches their needs and ambitions.
