Sinclair Koelemij has over 45 years of hands-on experience in process automation and industrial control, spanning control system engineering, networking, software development, OT cybersecurity, and cyber-physical risk management. His career began in the era of panel-driven control rooms and extends through the first distributed control system (DCS) implementations that transformed operations into centralized control centers. More recently, his work has tracked the shift toward increasingly autonomous control systems and the new dependencies they introduce.

Over 43 years at Honeywell, Sinclair supported the full lifecycle of automation and process safety solutions, including service delivery, engineering execution, software development, and security hardening of both basic and advanced control environments. His project background covers petrochemical, refining, pipeline, offshore, and chemical operations, with practical exposure to a wide range of architectures and operational constraints.

Across more than 100 control and safety system implementations, he worked on installations ranging from fewer than 1,000 I/O points to complex deployments exceeding 100,000 I/O points. He also led major cyber-physical risk assessments for large refineries, pipelines, offshore facilities, and chemical process sites, connecting cyber failure modes to real process hazards and operational consequences.

Sinclair approaches OT security from the process outward: security is not an abstract overlay, but a discipline that must preserve operational integrity and process safety performance under realistic failure and attack conditions. He holds multiple patents in cyber-physical risk evaluation and mitigation. Since retiring in 2023, Sinclair has focused on education in cyber-physical risk, organizing masterclasses and workshops for the process industry.
